Due for release in 2017, the new Volvo XC60 is set to rival a range of luxury crossover SUVs, such as the Audi Q5. The exact release date is unknown but it is thought that Volvo’s latest addition will be unveiled at the next Geneva Motor Show in March 2017.
In terms of design, the SUV takes the best of the marque’s larger vehicles, such as the XC90, and integrates them into the XC60’s more compact dimensions.
Volvo’s flexible Scalable Product Architecture incorporates the vehicle’s angular design in a way likely to attract a lot of positive attention. An impactful front-end features a chrome-trimmed radiator grille and LED headlights, the latter appropriately shaped in the style of a hammer from Norse mythology.
Inside the cabin, further design cues are adapted from the XC90. Located behind the steering wheel is an infotainment system, enabling touch-and-swipe interaction, as well as an eye-catching digital instrument array.
Available engines comprise two four-cylinder 2.0-litre diesel engines, offering 187bhp and 232bhp. Following on the heels of the XC60’s launch date will be a higher-performing twin engine plug-in hybrid. This will produce approximately 400bhp and a fuel-economy figure of 130mpg.
A wide range of safety equipment is featured, as is the case with all Volvos. Included is an autopilot system that enables autonomous steering, braking and acceleration when the vehicle is travelling at speeds of up to 80mph. Adaptive Cruise Control and Collision Warning System will be included too.
