A brand new SUV model from Volvo, the XC40, is coming soon to Johnsons Cars. The vehicle is set to be released in 2017 and we have the latest news on this exciting new addition to the marque.
The XC40 is based upon the 40.1 Concept, which was unveiled in Gothenburg in May of 2016. It is the first production car to utilise the brand’s all-new platform, known as Compact Modular Architecture.
This compact SUV takes some of its design cues from larger Volvo models, such as the XC90. The XC40 boasts a muscular front end, a sharply contoured body and a raised suspension, all adding to its impressive looks.
The XC40 is a front-wheel drive vehicle and features a 1.5-litre three-cylinder petrol turbo engine, which is paired with seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. Working in tandem with an electric motor, this produces as much as 254bhp. The engine generates 180bhp, and 74bhp is produced by the electric motor.
Several three- and four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines will be available too, and plug-in hybrid and all-electric models are set to follow soon after the initial release.
In electric mode alone the XC40 will be capable of a range of approximately 31 miles, enough to easily cover the average commute. As yet, fuel economy and CO2 emissions figures have yet to be confirmed, but Volkswagen has intimated that these will be class-leading.
When the exact date of the new launch is confirmed we will publish the news on our website, so keep an eye out for updates.
