First Edition of New Volvo XC90 Sells Out in just 47 hours
The First Edition of the all-new Volvo XC90, of which 1,927 were produced, sold out within 47 hours of its release on Wednesday, 3 September.
Only available for purchase online, the new Volvo XC90 was released at 16:00 hours CET. Most of the special models were reserved within one of minute of the sale starting, and at peak volume, seven cars were sold every minute.
“We are very pleased, but not really surprised,” said Alain Visser, Senior Vice President, Marketing, Sales and Customer Service of Volvo Car Group. “The huge interest in the XC90 escalated to astronomical levels after the world premiere last week.”
Volvo produced the special First Edition cars to celebrate their long motoring history, dating back to 1927, which was also the number of cars produced. This First Edition marked the first time in Volvo’s history that the special vehicles had only been available from Volvo’s website.
Owners of the First Edition will enjoy a fully-equipped car with uniquely numbered tread plates and a distinctive tailgate badge. It will be powered by a high-performance petrol or diesel engine from Volvo Cars’ new four-cylinder Drive-E powertrains. The highest powered model delivers an astonishing 320bhp, while all models are teamed with a smooth eight-speed automatic transmission.
