When the new generation of the Mazda2 arrives, starting with a Japanese debut, it will do so with a brand new, cleaner and more efficient diesel option.
The SKYACTIV-D engine will carefully balance performance with economy, as well as maintaining a more environmentally-friendly level of CO2 emissions. It’s confirmed to be available with the next-generation Mazda2 from launch, and should make it the best diesel-powered supermini for high fuel economy in Japan. Above all, the spirited compact car will remain one of the most fun to drive.
Mazda first presented the new engine at the Geneva Motor Show earlier this year. The power system is based on the previous award-winning SKYACTIV-D engine offered with the Mazda3, Mazda6 and Mazda CX-5. New technologies help with keeping the engine cool, controlling water valves and helping engine gases to recirculate.
It forms part of the all-encompassing SKYACTIV Technology that’s fused with the Mazda2 to maximise economical performance and the driving experience. The car’s expected to also feature the SKYACTIV-Drive automatic and SKYACTIV-MT manual transmissions as options, and i-stop and i-ELOOP brake energy regeneration systems will be included.
