The new e-up! from Volkswagen is the first fully-electric vehicle to be produced by the German carmaker, and retains the build quality motorists have come to expect from the brand.

Exterior styling reflects the electronic-led mechanics, with a number of futuristic features included to distinguish the vehicle from its non-electric sibling. LED daytime running lights and a blue lining around the Volkswagen roundel are a nod towards the model’s environmental characteristics, while the sporty alloys also conserve energy.

An ergonomically designed cabin continues the theme set by the exterior, with subtle blue detailing on the wheel, gear knob and handbrake. The simple dashboard contains all primary functions within a straightforward centre console, allowing command of infotainment features, sat nav and air conditioning from a clear touchscreen device.

An 81bhp electric engine powers the new e-up! with direct drive transmission and a lithium ion battery. The engine is tucked away between the axles so there is no compromise on boot space, with 250 litres available. A range of 93 miles on a full charge is achievable, placing the new e-up! among the leaders in its class.

Three driving modes can be selected, altering the power output and electrical systems for more energy-efficiency if desired. You can also select from four energy recovery modes via the shifter located on the centre console, which come into play when rolling downhill or approaching traffic lights for example.

With the everyday practicality of a traditional combustion-powered car and zero emissions, the new e-up! appeals to the modern motorist with environmental responsibility on their mind.
